white van man
«Человек с белым автофургоном». Это водитель белого автофургона, который выполняет различные доставки, перевозки и т. д. и который считается, часто без основания, тёмной личностью, грубияном и очень плохим водителем. Это выражение в Великобритании применяется без разбора и к мастерам по ремонту бытовой техники (repairmen), и к посыльным (deliverymen) любого свойства, и к сантехникам, и к строителям независимо от их профессиональной честности и квалификации. Такого человека называют просто the man with a white van (человек с белым автофургоном) или просто the man with the van (человек с автофургоном) — цвет не имеет значения. Выражение впервые появилось в 1970-е гг.

Mary's sink got blocked up and I offered to help clear it, but she said she knew a white van man whom she could trust to fix it quickly and cheaply. — У Мэри засорилась раковина, и я предложил помочь прочистить её, но она сказала, что знает работягу, которому можно доверять и который прочистит раковину быстро и дёшево.
